SUSTAIN will provide a bespoke sustainable fuel blend for the testing and production of the T70S and T70S GT
SUSTAIN’s biomass-based fuel provides greenhouse gas savings without negatively impacting performance
SUSTAIN partnership forms part of Lola Cars’ commitment to wider sustainability innovations
Lola Cars and the Coryton Innovation Hub have today announced that SUSTAIN will be the Official Sustainable Fuel Partner for testing and production of the T70S and T70S GT.
SUSTAIN focuses on developing responsible and sustainable fuels that contribute towards the push for net zero. Produced at the Coryton Innovation Hub by the Aspen Group, SUSTAIN Racing and Classic fuels are used throughout the motorsport sector and beyond, with a range of blends also available to the public.
For the development of the T70S and T70S GT, SUSTAIN has provided a bespoke fuel blend technically tailored for racing vehicles. This product uses advanced second-generation biofuel that recycles carbon already in the atmosphere, rather than releasing additional carbon from fossil fuels that are currently locked underground. Containing 100% sustainable content, it allows the fuel to deliver an 80% greenhouse gas (GHG) saving compared to fossil fuels while ensuring exceptional, reliable performance.
SUSTAIN’s fuel characteristics mean Lola Cars can continue maximising the sustainability credentials of the T70S, which saw a 54% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared with conventional manufacturing benchmarks thanks to cutting-edge manufacturing innovations. The fuel will be used for the development of all 16 cars due to be produced across both track (T70S) and road (T70S GT) variants.
Matt Faulks, Executive Innovation Director of Lola Cars, said: “Working with SUSTAIN enables us to use a sustainable fuel throughout our testing and development programme for both the T70S and the T70S GT, without sacrificing performance. The fuel is the perfect fit for our requirements, providing demonstrable reduction in life cycle emissions and showing how it is possible to faithfully reimagine a 1960s icon while still delivering on sustainability goals.”
Suresh Nahar, Brand Manager for SUSTAIN, added: “These latest evolutions of the T70 bring together iconic racing car design with innovative sustainable materials and an authentic, uncompromised driving experience. With SUSTAIN fuel in the engine, we can help preserve their deep connection to historic motorsport while showcasing technologies that could transform our future too. It’s the perfect partnership!”
The T70S has successfully completed 4,000kms of testing in the hands of Lola’s official test driver, Johnny Herbert. The modern reimagining of the iconic T70 is available to buyers in one of two specifications. The T70S is the ultimate competition version, supplied with an FIA Historic Technical Passport. With 530bhp, it achieves a top speed of 203mph and accelerates from 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds. The T70S GT is supplied UK road-registered and is optimised for drivability on road. It has 500bhp, enabling a top speed of 200mph and acceleration of 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds. The T70S GT retains the fundamental DNA of the race car while incorporating subtle enhancements for use on the road.
Both versions of the T70S feature the Lola Natural Composite System (LNCS), a patent-pending bodywork solution which is 100% natural and petrochemical-free, combining all-natural fibre with a wholly plant-based resin system and features componentry fabricated from magnesium recovered from sea water. These breakthrough sustainability features of the new T70 are reflected in the moniker ‘T70S’ for sustainability.
